Amethyst
A tiny, always-on-top companion that lives on your Windows desktop — draggable, click-through, and one shortcut away from help.
Pre-release build
- 110 × 120 pixels — a small transparent window holding a single character, floating above your other applications. Grab the character itself and the whole window follows your cursor, natively, with no lag.
- Click-through by default. Opaque pixels of the character accept the mouse; transparent padding passes every click straight to whatever app is underneath.
- Ctrl+Shift+Space toggles Amethyst from anywhere in Windows — and your last position is remembered on this device.

Hover Amethyst and a compact pill expands with three actions. Each one opens a focused mode docked right under the character.

Sessions
One session, one conversation
The moment Amethyst appears, a session begins. The first send lazily creates exactly one conversation — titled from your first message — and every text, voice and screen question in that session joins it. Hiding Amethyst ends the session; showing it again starts a fresh one. Nothing is created until you actually send something.

Show it, hide it, keep it
- Ctrl+Shift+Space toggles Amethyst from anywhere in Windows.
- The sidebar row DOT Mini shows and hides it, with the live status dot.
- Your last position is remembered on this device and restored on launch when it is still on a connected display.
- Turning it off at quit keeps it off at the next launch.
- Drag settle, hide, and quit all restore the click-through state automatically.
Everything above describes the current pre-release build. The first public build (v0.1.0) is available on the download page.
What Amethyst does not do
Honest boundaries matter more than feature lists:
- Never captures in the background. Capture happens only when you press Send on a screen question.
- Never clicks, types, or moves your mouse. Guidance is drawn on a transparent overlay — your hands stay on the controls. AI transparency
- Never listens for a wake word. The mic opens only while you hold the voice button, up to 60 seconds.
- Never lingers in the taskbar. Hiding it removes the window entirely until you ask for it again.
